A novel type of cellular-uptake-shielding multifunctional envelope-type mesoporous silica nanoparticle (MEMSN) was designed for tumor-triggered targeting drug delivery to cancerous cells. beta-Cyclodextrin (beta-CD) was anchored on the surface of mesoporous silica nanoparticles via disulfide linking for glutathione-induced intracellular drug release. Then a peptide sequence containing Arg-Gly-Asp (RGD) motif and matrix metalloproteinase (MMP) substrate peptide Pro-Leu-Gly-Val-Arg (PLGVR) was introduced onto the surface of the nanoparticles via host-guest interaction. To protect the targeting ligand and prevent the nanoparticles from being uptaken by normal cells, the nanoparticles were further decorated with poly(aspartic acid) (PASP) to obtain MEMSN. In vitro study demonstrated that MEMSN was shielded against normal cells. After reaching the tumor cells, the targeting property could be switched on by removing the PASP protection layer via hydrolyzation of PLGVR at the MMP-rich tumor cells, which enabled the easy uptake of drug-loaded nanoparticles by tumor cells and subsequent glutathione-induced drug release intracellularly.

Two of the main challenges in post-combustion CO2 capture with ethanolamine are solvent degradation and material corrosion. It has been shown that there is a correlation between degradation and corrosion. The present paper examines this correlation by studying the effect of 10 MEA degradation products on corrosion. Thermal degradation experiments were conducted under stripper conditions for 5 weeks. 30wt% MEA solution with 1wt% of the various degradation products was placed in 316 SS cylinders and stored in a thermostat chamber at 135C. ICP-MS was used for the metal concentration analyses for all the solutions, while ion chromatography was used for the quantitative determination of heat stable salts anions and MEA concentrations. The solutions were also analysed for degradation products in order to study the formation and thermal stability of these compounds. For corrosion monitoring, in addition to ICP-MS analyses, SEM-EDS was used for examining the cylinders’ surface morphology and elemental composition while XRD was used for corrosion product identification. In the present paper, the influence of the secondary degradation products on corrosion is studied. Results show that some specific degradation products, such as Bicine, HeGly and HEEDA, enhance corrosion while others do not seem to have a significant effect on corrosion of stainless steel.

This chemoselective alkynylation could be further extended to an even more challenging selective alkynylation of a nitrogen-nucleophile over another one, further highlighting the synthetic potential of copper acetylides as alkynylating agents that can selectively ?fish? a nucleophile without affecting others.
