Key steps include an organocatalyzed heteroatom Michael addition, a diastereoselective alkylation with alpha-iodomethyl phenyl sulfide, a conjugate addition to a vinyl sulfone species, and a sulfone coupling/desulfurization sequence to join the two major subunits.
